Songwriter Spotlight

A quarterly listening-room series that celebrates original songwriting and the artists who create it.
Songwriters Spotlight

Discover new original music

We believe that original songwriting is sustained through listening, generosity, and community — and that creating space for songs to be heard with care helps both artists and audiences feel more connected to the work, and to each other.
Hosted by Briana Doyle and Seiji Gutierrez at the Hudson Creative Hub, the series brings together local and regional singer-songwriters to share their work in a 'listening room' setting designed for connection, and peer exchange.

Each edition is curated and presented in a Nashville-style song circle format, creating space for artists to hear one another’s work and for audiences to experience songs as they were meant to be heard.

How it works

  • Our Songwriter Spotlight takes place quarterly on a Saturday afternoon
  • Each showcase features 8-12 artists, depending on the format
  • All music is original and primarily acoustic in nature
  • The event is presented as a true listening experience, not an open mic
  • Artists and organizers donate their time, and the venue donates the space
  • Admission is by donation in support of the hosting nonprofit's mission
  • Artists are welcome to sell CDs or merchandise and retain all proceeds

At the close of each showcase, participating musicians collaborate on a shared group performance that highlights a lesser-known local songwriter they admire, chosen by the artists themselves. This closing moment reflects the spirit of generosity and recognition that underpins the series.

Who this is for

  • Songwriter Spotlight is intended for performing singer-songwriters who:
  • are actively writing and sharing original material
  • value attentive listening as much as performing
  • are interested in connecting with peers and audiences in a meaningful way
  • work in acoustic or roots-adjacent genres (no electronic elements)

The series is curated with care and balance in mind, with attention to theme, chemistry, and the needs of the room.

About curation & participation

Songwriter Spotlight is curated by Briana Doyle and Seiji Gutierrez.

Preference is often given to artists who are already part of Hudson's local songwriting community — including those who participate in the weekly Cardinal songwriting circle or monthly All Originals Open Mic.

Artists who are new to the series are warmly encouraged to attend or participate in an open mic first, as this is often the best way to get to know the community and the format.

Submitting an application expresses interest in being considered for future editions; it is not a booking request for a specific date.
